To encourage more New Zealanders to start using the sun’s energy, the Government is providing assistance for potential solar water heating users. The Government sees this as one way New Zealand can reduce its dependence on non-renewable energy, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as we respond to the challenges of climate change.
Property owners may be able to get a contribution of $1000 on eligible systems, provided they select a system that meets EECA’s eligibility criteria.
The Government is also putting funding towards getting more solar water heating systems into government and local government buildings.
Funding is also available under the Volume Build Grant Schemes, to new home builders and developers to increase the number of new homes with solar water heating, provided the volume builders select a system that meets EECA’s eligibility criteria.
A contestable innovation fund is also being established to provide support for organisations, businesses or individuals with good ideas for ways to increase the uptake of solar water heating.
This section of the Solarsmarter website provides information on the assistance available and how to apply.
